Ep. 37 – Prophecy Fails

In this episode of A Matter of Doubt, Steve and Brian discuss the legitimacy of prophetical claims in the Bible as purported by Jehovah’s Witnesses. Specifically, we address the various stories of Jesus arriving on a donkey and his foretelling in Genesis. Be sure to send us an email if you know of any interesting prophecies that we should know about!

Listening to the episode, your lack of knowledge of equine offspring terms was driving me nuts! The word “foal” (rhymes with “coal”) is the equivalent of baby – it can be either sex – and is the offspring of a horse, or a donkey, or any other equine. A “colt” is a male foal. It applies to the male offspring of both horses and donkeys. A “filly” is a female foal. As the young horse or donkey gets older, the terms “colt” and “filly” are used more than the term “foal”. So, think of “colt” as the equivalent of “young male” horse OR donkey.

As a result of your confusion over terms, I think you didn’t really understand what the problems with the bible passages actually were.

Thank you for your comment and continued listening, Nancy! I’m glad someone listening out there is knowledgeable about equine offspring.  We will address this correction on our next episode (to your credit), but I believe our issue with the prophecy remains. The primary problem with translations from the Old to New Testaments is the appearance of a second animal, irrespective of what kind (i.e. foal, filly, or colt), when there was originally only one.
